Our 6 day to Guadalupe Island was far from easy but with the persistence of the anglers and crew we managed to put together a phenomenal trip! We battled weather the first couple days at the island, strong winds, rain and cooling water were not on our side. Alex and crew worked very hard to stay on top on the fish and gave us great opportunity. The last day of the trip Alex put us on a school of fish that went wide open till dark. Epic battles with Yellowfin Tuna ranging from 40-150 pounds with a handful of good grade Yellowtail. Our Phenix Black Diamond Hybrids and Axis series were the preferred rods for this trip. Our annual Phenix sponsored trip on the Apollo was successful as usual! The trip started with a fly down to Puerto Vallarta where we boarded the Apollo. These fly down style trips are nice because all the travels days are skipped which allows you to start fishing right away on the grounds. We had great weather and plenty of opportunity at good grade Yellowfin Tuna with a mix of Grouper to go along. The fish were keyed in on trumpet fish, making the bites a little challenging. Alex and the crew of the Apollo fished hard and made squid at night to be fished in the early mornings which made a big difference on our opportunities.
